Wedding Themed Layout - by Toni Herron

Welcome back Memory Maze friends. Toni here and  I have a special treat for you today with a loved up layout featuring a stunning photo (credit to Kristina Childs) of a good friend Shae and her new husband Alex. They finally made it official in Bali in April in a spectacular wedding!

I started out with a pattern paper from Kaiser as the background. I left it as is.

 Then used this fun Beehive 12x12 chipboard piece as the focal piece for the background. I painted it with a "Linen" coloured paint and randomly plot some "Cotton Candy" paint in some areas. Over the top of that paint I lightly applied some Silver Stickles Glitter glue.

 

 



The swirl chipboard pieces used as a cluster branch for the flowers has been coated with a Silver Opal embossing powder. The Words for the title have been coloured using the Adirondack Alcohol Silver ink. I really wanted a flat, clean and shiny finish to the words. So therefore using any sort of embossing powder was out of the question.

 



 

The flower clusters include plenty of Kaiser, Manor House and Prima. Of course I added the final touches of some Memory Maze bling in there too.

 

 

I submitted this into my local show a couple of weeks ago, I'm very proud to announce that I captured 1st Place with this gorgeous layout. I hope that this does some justice for the stunning photo and amazing chipboard pieces!

 

This awesome layout that my youngest son Hunter (just 5yrs old) did featuring Memory Maze chipboard captured - link to blog post -  1st Place for his Age Group section also! :)

Frame and Card - by Guest DT Lane Herron

Hello crafters. We are back today to share with you the two latest creations that our Guest Designer Lane has been working on.

Swimming Frame

Lane wanted to bring you something different! Something unique! And I definitely think he managed that when he came up with the idea of using the special Swim chipboard pieces to alter this plain black photo frame.

He started off by simply painting the "Lane Rope" pieces white and then randomly adding some glue and Blue Glitter on top. "My Mum thinks it looks weird because it's not all covered in Blue Glitter, but I think it's just because it looks awesome and it was my idea, not hers!"

The swimmer piece was coated several times with Silver Opal embossing powders. He learnt this technique by watching his Mum on another project a few months ago.  He did about 4/5 layers of the Opal powder, as he was finding it difficult to get rid of some of the holes. He eventually gave up and "will live with that".

Then the medal / ribbon piece he heat embossed Gold. "I tried to double layer it like the Opal powder, but that didn't work the same"

Easel Card

Although Lane just celebrated his own Birthday (the big 13!), he is already looking forward to his little brothers birthday at the end of June.
The only Memory Maze chipboard on this card is those cool flag banners in the top corner. As soon we he saw these, he knew that he wanted to make a special card. He simply painted them White.

We looked through some different designs and he settled on the Easel fold. Using Hunter's favourite paper, he dry embossed the pattern paper for the card topper.

The tag on the side has a happy birthday stamped on it and Hunter's favourite character is Iron Man,  "ohhhh YES, jackpot!" when he found this piece in the scrap pile.

Steampunk canvas - by Toni Herron

Good evening fellow crafters, it's Toni here tonight to bring you my latest DT creation for Memory Maze. I wanted to share something a bit different and out of my own comfort zone yet again and chose to go wild with this SteamPunk themed canvas.

So I started off by preparing this 8"x8" canvas with white Gesso, then before it dried I quickly sprinkled over some Silver Opal embossing powder. When it was heated up, it gave a great melted metal look.

 

Next I used a MM Brick stencil and Modelling Paste with Gold embossing powder coating it. I loved the look of it bubbling when it was being heat dried. Added that extra special Steampunk feel.

 

I added a little bit of colour to the base with some Distress Inks. And topped it off with a few dashes of Barn Door ink to compliment the chipboard piece that will be featured in the middle of the canvas.

 

Now it was onto colouring the chipboard pieces. Again, I covered some Cogs in the Silver Opal powder and the centre Steampunk piece with Distress Powder.

 

 

So the final touches were to hot glue everything down! I added some extra cogs to the other corners. I have used the Silver Opal powder again and two distress inks to softly colour them.

Embellished with plenty of Steampunk themed goodies like; train, key, clock, pins etc..

Life is a Journey - Candy Chelepy

Hello everyone once again I have a quick tutorial for you using the lovely chipboard from

Memory Maze for my latest Design Team piece.
And yes a layout for you this month

I have started with some cog/gear chipboard and used some texture paste really heavily.
I had to leave this overnight to dry as I wanted a texture grungy look.

When this was dry I sprayed with Glimmer mist sprays
( dry completely after each coat) Until I got the colour I wanted.
 Then gently rubbed some rub n buff in gold over the top.

I then used some Distress Ink Walnut stain and rubbed gently over the top

to tone it down a little.

I then created my layout making sure that everything was glued down well.

Joy wedding layout - by Toni Herron

Good morning Memory Maze friends and family. I am excited to be back today after quite a big weekend celebrating our Guest DT member Lane's 13th birthday. He will be back with a post for you very soon to share another Memory Maze project he has created just for you!

 

Today however, I'm happy to bring to you this lovely wedding layout featuring some different techniques used on the Memory Maze chipboard pieces.

 

Joy

Using Kaiser papers & flowers, Prima Bling swirl and 3 gorgeous MM chipboard pieces this layout has a very subtle soft vibe to highlight the photo against the busy background paper.

 

 

The beautiful picket fence gate was quite simple to colour with some black paint. 

 

The title piece "joy" was fun with a few different layers. First was two coats of White Embossing powder. I then realised it still wasn't as white as I wanted it, so I sprayed some White Mist on it. This definitely helped to get a more solid coverage. I should have inked or painted it first as I wanted it to be stark white. silly me! It was finished off with a top coat of Dimensional magic.

 

The pretty bicycle piece was first covered with a pink ink, then sprayed with a Glimmermist and top coated with the Dimensional magic.

 

 

Every now and again I think it is important to go back to basics with scrapbooking layouts and do a fairly simple design. I believe it can help to reload our creative imagination and give a nice boost to a lacking mojo.

Introducing Lane

It is with great pleasure that I introduce Lane Herron to Guest on the Memory Maze blog.

 

 

Lane is a young man with heaps of talent. Scrapbooking is merely one of them. He is a keen sportsman and is heavily involved in Swimming, AFL football, Cross Country and distance running and is at Representative Level for them all.

I love watching his journey and he is a serious Scrapbooking talent. I am hoping that we will see more of his work in the future.

For his first project, he has designed a fun boy themed page featuring a photo of himself his best mate. They were born only two weeks apart and were neighbours for over 6yrs until his mate sadly moved away. Even though time passes, whenever they are together it's like the never missed a beat!

 

To start off the layout, he chose some papers from the Kasier Scrap Yard collection. This is one of his favourites to create with.  Going through his Mum's awesome Memory Maze stash, he pulled out the Wall chipboard piece, some Cogs and the title.

 

 

He was able to use a sketch to base his layout on, however actually ended up making so many changes and adaptions that it has very little resemblance to the sketch.  The base was lightly coated with some Gesso, as this matched some of the pattern already on the paper.

Then some strips were torn and layered in a stair effect to form the background of the layout.

 

The wall chipboard piece was painted black and cut up to be placed around the page.

The Selfies title and Cogs were coated with a Silver alcohol ink.  Everything gets distressed and raised with 3D tape whenever Lane scraps! The chipboard was adhered to the page with caution and delicately with the hot glue gun (as his Mum was hoovering over his shoulder!)

Good day Memory Maze friends. It is a perfect day for crafting at my house at the moment. Overcast and sun showers, lovely weather to stay inside.

 

Today I'm going to share with you a couple of projects made by myself and one by my youngest crafter, Hunter.

For this layout, I loved following the White on White rule. Although the photo doesn't do it justice, it most certainly IS white on white!  I have used some white paint on the flowers, white paint and sprinkles of white embossing powder on top for the doily and plain impasto for the Memory Maze Pebbles stencil.

Plenty of layers, textures, different combinations of flowers have made this one of my all time top favourite layouts!

 

This first layout was completed by me for the April 123 Challenge blog challenge.

The blog owner also owns a crafting store in Gladstone, Qld. Scrapbook Fantasies are now stocking loads of customised Memory Maze chipboard and of course some older favourites.

This layout was made by Hunter. 5yrs old and already loves to work from a sketch, adapt it to suit his own papers and photos and digs through my Memory Maze goodies on his own. I sometimes offer a suggestion, I usually get told no. I offer to help, again I get told no.  He is very independent and likes it done his way!

 

 

With some supervision by our Guest Designer this month - Lane.

For the chicken wire, Hunter used a Silver alcohol ink, as he wanted it to look like the fence and shiny. For the title, he had to cut off the biker down a trick cause that didn't match the scooter photos, then did 2 coats of white paint. He hasn't had the chance to journal on the page yet, but will be soon!
