Awesome August

Hi everyone and welcome to my August post from Susan.

MY GUY

This layout is all aabout my husband David. I printed out a large photo (A5 size) because at times he is larger than life. He loves his shed and invents, designs and makes many things there. He is an electrician by trade so the ladder and lightbulb fitted this project to a tee!

The viewfinder was coated with Distress Stain in Black soot with black Kindy Glitz spread over the top. A brad was inserted throught the center.
The Sparky Electrician was coloured with Distress Stain in brushed pewter and black soot. The pole was coloured with Radian Rain in nutmeg. The fan was top coated with Kindy Glitz in antique silver to give it some texture. The cogs were coloured with Distress Stain in copper.

The tag ticked was coloured with Distress Stain in tarnished brass with black soot around the edges. A tag was glued onto the top and brads were inserted into the ends.
The light bulb was coloured with Distress Stain in brushed pewter and Smooch in gold lame. The inner tree was coated with Plaid glitter paint in silver. Dimensional Magic was applied over the bulb to give it some shine.

SHED TIME

Here is my husband's second home! It is definately a boy's playground, complete with toys and his "fish fridge of fame" where all the big catch photos go...as well as beer! I wanted this layout to reflect the shiny toys as well as the grungy shed stuff.

The fob watch "shed time", was painted with Smooch in silver, blue and bronze. When dry, Distress Crackle Paint in clear rock candy was painted over the top for an aged look.

These tools were left unpainted but had clear crackle paint on them. I covered cardstock with silver foil tape then embossed it.

These smaller tools were painted with Smooch in silver and bronze.

I find that Memory Maze has such a good range of chipboard for the boys( young and old alike!)  and it makes it easier to embellish my layouts to create the feel that I want to convey in them.
Happy scrapping
Susan

Amanda Lawrence - Pretty Girl - Step by Step

I love seeing others creative process. I find it so interesting to see how other peoples pages come together and how they go about creating them. With this in mind I thought I would take a few progress shots and make a mini tutorial for how I created my latest Memory Maze project.

Pretty Girl

Firstly I'll show you the finished layout and then break it down step by step below.

I started by giving my chipboard pieces a coat of paint using a Distress Paint dabber in pewter. Using a metallic is always a great option when you are not sure which of the colours from your scheme will work best.

I painted up both the frame and the word 'pretty' which I will use as part of my title later.

I wanted to make the most of my background paper with it's doily elements so I cut some circles of paper from a contrast colour to fit in the centres. To make them pop from the background I lightly distressed the edges and then sewed a circle of handstitching about 1/4" in from the edge.

I wanted to use this vine as the basis for my floral cluster, so I simply bent it to fit the same curve as the chipboard frame.

I pulled more flowers from my stash in my chosen colour palette and worked my way around the vine, filling in the blank spaces. I have used quite bulky flowers but you could achieve the same look with flatter ones. The end of the vine looked a little odd so I covered it with a big floppy bow tied from some hand dyed seam binding.

I added my title to one of the other doily sections of the background and balanced the layout by adding a smaller cluster of flowers here. To even out the tone I dry brushed some gesso over all the flowers and leaves on the page.

As a finishing touch I coloured some chipboard butterflies with my silver metallic sharpie pen and scattered them throughout the flowers.

It was really a fun layout to put together and quite simple when you break down the steps.

Navy

When Sally (the owner and designer of Memory Maze) heard that I was in the Navy she designed some terrific chipboard shapes to go with our life style of being a Navy Family. I have so many photos of myself, my husband and my daughters doing ship visits or our daily Navy routines and now I have the perfect embellishment to go with them.

I have actually used four different shades of mist on these two chipboard pieces to give them a great gun metal grey look.

Victoria Freze >> August reveal

Hello dear Memory Maze fans! I hope you have wonderful time no matter what season you have now. As for me, I'm in a Christmas mood - creating cards and inspired by traditional colors of this holiday. So, I have three cards for today, two of them are for Christmas.

Merry Christmas

For the first card I used Merry Christmas small chipboard that I covered with red acrylic paint and glitter glue.

I used traditional colors here: red and green, as well as white and black. A bow and a snowflake in the center together with the title make me think about Christmas presents I will give and get soon :)

Merry Xmas

Another Christmas card. I used larger chipboard here, which is perfect not only for cards but also for layouts.

To paint it I used different acrylic paints and to join them gradually I slightly covered the center with white paint.

Best Wishes

My last card is for no specific holiday, just for someone special. Love this chipboard for the variety ways of using.

I covered it with green solid color and then just some yellow and white. Really like the effect - will match any type of cards or layouts just because it helps to use several colors at once.

Well, this was my last blog post as a DT member. I'm happy I was a part of this amazing team and I wish all of you to inspire and be inspired :)

Have a fabulous day!

Hilde Aaslund's August DT reveal- and farewell

Wow, my journey with Memory Maze has gone so fast, too fast, but it has been a very pleasant one, where I have done what I love the most: beeing an inpiration for others by using some of my favourite papercraft items: chipboards. That said, I hope Sally will have an international DT at a later moment and that I will get a second chance then. I'm also very happy to see she'll keep the talented Australian and New Zealand paper crafters, and I'm excited to see what they will come up with over the next months. So my post today will be my last post for a while :-)

............................

Fellow paper crafters often ask me where I find inspiration for my creations, and the answer is: all over. It can be a photo, an occation I need a card for, a color combo challenge, a sketch or a certain product. I was browsing through my Memory Maze chipboards the other day, when I noticed this corner set and though: "Hey, I want to create with this!"

In this post I'll show you three examples on how to use this set.

.................

Family Fun

On this layout I used the corner set to frame a background which allowed the photos to show better on the busy background.

The chipboards are simly covered with gesso and painted with a blue acrylic paint:

Additional Memory Maze Chipboard:

Other supplies: Ready Made Cut File (Jillibean Soup), patterned papers & cut outs (Lemon Owl), alpha (AC), buttons & twine (unknown)

In Cloud Nine

I took my Family to London, UK, this Easter Break. We had a blast, and there was one shop I wanted to visit: Desigual - I just love their happy clothes. I think it became hubby's favourite shop too, when the shop keeper offered him a cold beer while he was waiting for me, trying outfits.

The background is made from the paper shopping bag received in the store. It's rather busy, so I used the biggest chipboard piece from the corner set to tie the center cluster together. The chipboard is covered with gesso, inked up in blue and stamped with a grid stamp.

Non Memory Maze products used: CS (Bazill), shopping bag (Desigual), cut outs (Crate papers), alpha (AC), Badge (the Paper Bakery), Ink (Ranger), stamp (Kaisercraft), sewing machine, pen

.......................

Anchor Card

I had some nautical themed items I wanted to use on a card, and the smallest chipboards from the corner set was perfect for this!

The chipboard is covered with gesso and inked up with a silver ink

Non Memory Maze Products used: All materials except chipboard and CS (Bazill) from The Paper Bakery July Kit. Original sketch: The Paper Bakery

...............................

I hope this post has given you some ideas on how to use the corner set for both layouts and cards. If you want to see more of my work, you are always welcome to visit my blog :-)

Have a fabolous day!
